       Free software, to me, is about the perpetual freedom of human knowledge developed over millennia (not hyperbole) codified in source code. This source code has been a human output for other humans to build on, and absolutely qualifies as equal parts form and function, art and math, beauty and purpose. Throwing machines into the mix has always been possible, but I feel they have not created beauty in any meaningful sense. On the other hand, I have often been awestruck by the code of other people.
