Should I update BIOS on an ASUS B650 motherboard if current BIOS seems to work fine but is 2 years old... and there are several versions in between with "after installing this, you cannot downgrade" ?

@wolf480pl you can, and you can downgrade usually, but you might need an external programmer. 😀If you currently have no problems there's usually not a big incentive to upgrade. You will get cpu microcode updates from os patched as well.Usually reasons to upgrade include: * UEFI security issues you care about * XMP/EXPO Profiles of your ram not working * Wanting to upgrade to a newer cpu and needing a bios update first. If you're not in any of those positions there's usually no reason.

@wolf480pl there's been some cpu security patches in newer AGESA versions (and I think one can't be fully patched by os-loaded microcode until a new enough AGESA is used)

@hpwell, there's also:- incorrect voltages / power limits / etc causing premature CPU failurethough I guess those were resolved by November 2024?

@wolf480pl also I think very specific motherboards. 😀Yeah, then too. If you want to upgrade there's usually not much of a downside either! But if you're worried about new problems then not upgrading is generally fine too.
