       On the rails again… #InterrailToday I’m doing a railway silly. @darkphoenix and I have picked up @thiscatis who is visiting Germany for a bit at Hamburg Hbf. We are making our way up to Heide (Holst), where we will be having lunch and maybe do some sightseeing.I’ll leave them at Heide and make my way from Holstein to Schleswig via Husum. I am hoping to grab a particular train back to Hamburg and then heading to Bochum tonight.Today’s Itinerary: https://moof.space/trip/2026-04-14We departed ten minutes late on a nordbahn FLIRT, and we have a 7 minute connection at Elmshorn, so we are hoping the RE6 is equally delayed.        And after a delicious lunch with my delightful travel companions, we have parted ways. I decided to take the slightly earlier intercity train to Husum, as my connection was a bit tight otherwise. These old intercity trains are soon going to be phased out and replaced with ICE-L units starting in July. Whilst they are definitely showing their age, they are definitely still a nice ride. I managed to bag an entire first class compartment for myself and Wendy the DBJUNGLESKOG. In a way, I am happy I chose this train, given the one I hope to take on the way down.The other thing is that this train is being pulled by a diesel locomotive - V2183 - that is in vintage livery today.

       I then caught a cute little battery-powered FLIRT to cross over from Husum to Schleswig.For a town after which this region is named after, this station is very much the minimum viable station as things go. There’s definitely not much here, down to and including a platform 2, as it seems only to have 1 and 3.My next train arrives in just about 15 minutes. Here’s hoping it exists as advertised…

       And 1 minute after the RE7 leaves, they announce that due to catenary repairs, the ECE 397 has been cancelled.They could have let us know before the only alternative train for the hour left…This is the third time I’ve tried to catch a DSB Talgo 230 and had it cancelled on me. I’m starting to believe that they don’t actually exist.
