       @the_etrain That's because the first popular TV remote control, the Zenith Space Command, worked by striking tuning forks which generated ultrasonic tones that the TV picked up with a microphone, and it had spring-loaded buttons that made a loud click/ping sound when you pushed them -- and it didn't need any batteries! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w8ONkBRcF8
