I love it when people share photos of their ant infestation with me. It always feels like they think I might know some prominent ant in that particular colony and be able to email them or something "listen, ya'll need to get out of Tony's BBQ, he's on the verge of firing it up without letting you move out first."Like I'm responsible for all of the ants, and I'm their ambassador or something. I mean... it's a little true. But, the ants will do what they want. They will get into everything.

There was a talk at the bee keeping meetup last year where a guy talked about getting swarms out of peoples' houses. Several exterminators have his phone number. Some people mistakenly believe he'd pay them for the bees. He's gotta inform them it's $500, plus he's going to have to cut up your walls, you're going to have bees in your home you need to let out or kill, and you'll need to redo the drywall (or hire someone to do it). It's pretty intense to get bees out of a home. I wouldn't do it for anyone. He uses a shop vac, and has to pull out combs and attach them to frames with wire. A regular exterminator may not be able to kill the queen and spare queen-cells, but people who do this regularly will be sure to get everything. It's a pretty specific skill though. Most bee keepers wouldn't try to capture bees unless they're in a swarm outside.

@futurebird TOTAL ANT DEATH. Squish ants, poison ant colonies, pour boiling water down ant holes. Place poisoned honeypots on known ant paths. Shoot an ant queen with a nailgun. Raise anteaters by the dozen. Flamethrower ants. Use painful, slow-acting poisons on ants. Burn ants with a magnifying glass.

@djsumdog @futurebird My sister had to do this after my mom died. My mom refused to allow us to deal with it, so for years we were blocking up holes through which bees were entering the house. Clearing out the bees involved tearing out an entire side of the living room and ended up with honey everywhere. Even after replacing the drywall, it took months to clean up all the honey.
