       i've actually done this! i was not involved in the Certificate of Compliance bit and it may as well have been hypothetical from my point of view, but i do know that had to be done for every new firmware version, and we had to comply with ISO 9001 and 27001 and pass audits throughout the development processRE: https://eigenmagic.net/users/daedalus/statuses/116286264608545705

       @linear I've also seen code that had to be certified for nuclear reactors, one when I was at atomic energy of Canada in high school there was a certified fluid simulation they used, there was a like a page of comments at the top about all the certifications it had. And when I was in my undergrad, one of my compsite professors mentioned that McMaster's CS department being involved with certifying some code recently for atomic energy of Canada.

       @Canageek @linear yep, also standards like MISRA etc.This stuff exists it’s just most people have not been exposed to it unless they work on safety critical systems.The idea that the discipline was OK without that level of rigor or formal verification is a disservice to the world as a whole, imo.AI be damned, the industry is very stupid and held together with nearly nothing and a lot of ICs *and* their management are responsible.CS / Software Engineering as a rigorous discipline is rare.
