I currently use FreshRSS which is great, but I'm planning on getting rid of my VPS because I never use it and it doesn't make sense to pay for it anymore...

@pry Liferea. This and Demonfeed on Windows (not updated anymore) are one of the rare RSS feed reader that seems to be able to go beyond finding an RSS feed. For example, for a certain site, if I put the search URL, it doesn't work on 95% of them, I have to search, then click on "RSS" on the site to get the feed. Meanwhile for Liferea, I can just put the search URL and it does the rest for me

@pry It can't download non audio/video files and the developers won't accept patches adding support for this behavior even as an opt-in feature :akkounamused:

@pry in theory i wanna selfhost my own thing that consumes rss/atom (among other formats) but in practice inoreader is more convenient because it has mobile apps that don't suck, so it falls into the "good enough for now" hole for memay end up writing my own thing eventually

@a I used to use freshrss and imo the website works great on mobile. The issue was I dont really have my own dedicated hosting hardware and it stopped making sense for me to pay for a VPS while I was basically hosting nothing on it...
