       Youtube showed me the most Dutch thing ever recently: a volunteer firefighter cycling from home to the station when he gets a page, on a dedicated emergency bicycle equipped with red and blue flashing lights on the wheels and handlebars.The only thing missing would be a stroopwafel in the mouth anime toast style, lol.(Dutch folks, is this common or just something one guy did on his own initiative? The emergency lights on the bike I mean, not the cycling to the fire house)

       @lambda Volunteer, true. Stockton CA and South Metro in the Denver area both have very well followed, high production value channels too though.SMFR's channel has been going a bit downhill lately since a few of their PIOs left for other departments and the replacements aren't that good yet

       @lambda Yeah it's always interesting to see how folks do things in different parts of the world.I would love to find a ground SAR agency putting out mission videos but tramping around the woods in the rain at night is a lot less photogenic than putting out fires so it doesn't surprise me there is little if any of that being posted

       @lambda Done right, with body cameras on the ground teams and GPS tracks overlaid on the map and snippets of radio traffic, you could make a really nice story out of it though.In particular looking at both the tactical side of how the ground teams operate, and the strategic side of where command decides to deploy them

       @lambda Even doing it for a training exercise and then editing it up and recapping as a group would be really interesting, I think, getting to see the command side of the operation you don't get to from the field and vice versa.In my unit most of the more experienecd folks have worn most of the hats at one point or another but it's not the same as getting to see both perspectives of a single incident ex post facto

       @lambda I'm a SAR ground pounder myself although I've thought about maybe volunteering with local FD/EMS (paid department primarily but they do have volunteers to supplement them during busy times etc) once the kid is older and I'm less busy.And obviously we work with other agencies, ranging from the fire dept to the navy, on a regular basis for patient transfers, medevacs, etc. So it's always cool to see how the other groups run things and get to see what it's like on the other end of the hook dangling out of the sky lol
