       I was having issues accessing and sending my email from two different devices.I suspected the problems to be related, but, as it turns out, technology just loved me again and decided to give me two unrelated issues at the same time :neobot_flop: Issue 1: There were intermittent "Account errors" on my iPhone, where it would just not be able to fetch mail for a time. Sometimes it would magically start working and I couldn't see the pattern.Turns out that one was due to me using the Mailcow ActiveSync emulation on that device. It just kinda stopped working and after reading about SOGo probably wanting to drop that feature somewhen this year anyways, I just switched back to IMAP. Mails are thus delayed again, but at least they arrive at all.Issue 2: Mail on my Macbook was unable to send mail. I randomly discovered that some magical "Automatically manage connection settings" option decided that port 25 with no auth would be the correct configuration... So I fixed that manually et voilà, it works again.Also just found a note about that on this mailcow wiki page: https://docs.mailcow.email/client/client-apple/Now everything seems to be working again.I think by now I've had more stray issues with my mail from random client or compatibility issues than from my mail arriving. Getting mails actually delivered is somehow the easy part.

       But at least in the process I found out that the "Mobileconfig with App password" option in Mailcow has been fixed (previously it would silently fail to generate a valid password).

       Self-hosting email remains one of my favorite services.Not being limited in terms of what I can and can't do is epic.Plain and simple IMAP and SMTP slaps.

       In all of these years I had 1 (!) important mail not get delivered.The recipient was using Yahoo Mail.I ended up contacting them from a backup account and all was fine.

       Also: If one wouldn't want to gamble on whether they can get all of the SPF, DMARC and DKIM stuff right on their own (which I would say is not that hard, but still, possible).I would still say that it can be worthwhile to just self-host mail storage and IMAP and use an SMTP service for sending.Then you can still have ownership of your mail data at rest and outsource the delivery. And I'm pretty sure that the average person receives a lot more mail than they send :D

       @jana This is effectively what I do; I pull down everything via either POP3 or offlineIMAP and then process it locally, and use Namecheap's SMTP server to send.

       @StevenSaus I was more thinking along the lines of self-hosting something that can directly receive the mail, instead of pulling them from an external service.Yet that's also certainly an intermediary version of it that works ^^
