looked up some stuff about running Steam on FreeBSD and the internet suggested that it's not possible to do it under Waylandthankfully that doesn't seem to be the case at all, it just needed a tiny bit of extra setup, and also xwayland-satellite in order to not be stuck in a rootful xwayland window

trying Factorio: Space Age now, running in lsu chroot with legacy steam runtime.with Intel GPU, it starts, but at some point stops updating the screen. it otherwise seems to work, but i can't see what's going on because it just flips between the last two frames that the game had successfully rendered, ad infinitumwith the Nvidia GPU, there is no issue, but sometimes it crashes while loading. if it does load successfully, it seems to run without issue for as long as i've tested it - which hasn't been long so far, but we'll see how it holds up

@linear it took me the best part of half a day to get Steam installed and running under Wayland on Debian (with a very basic dwl window manager setup) and that was largely because I run a very lean setup and had a fair few things Steam required, missing.I'm unsure why folks thought it not possible to do under Wayland on FreeBSD?

@carbontwelve@notacult.social for the record when i posted this six months ago the advice i was seeing in forums and wikis suggested that running KDE Plasma in Wayland mode on FreeBSD was also not possible, and yet i had no trouble except with sddm
