Pascal was the first "serious" language I learned after BASIC and
a little bit of 6502 assembly language, and I learned it in the
classic Turbo Pascal environment, version 5.5 of which we (ahem)
borrowed from the local academic computing lab. I wish I had
learned one of the Mac Pascals or something at that time too, but
I got a lot of wear out of Turbo Pascal and to this day if I have
to use a DOS prompt I install my own MORE.EXE that I wrote ages
and ages ago (even though it doesn't do long filenames or
anything approaching modern Microsoft filesystem convention).

Not too long ago, Borland made the classic 5.5 freeware, and I
bet there are a whole new generation of Pascal hackers out there
gently encouraged by a friendly mathematician's ghost.

Like my previous computer language renga, the typographical
symbols (except logicals) are not to be pronounced, and any
Pascal programmer worth her or his salt knows that writeln is
pronounced "write line." My first draft had part of this in
comments, which I regarded as cheating, although I guess string
literals are sort of cheating also. It does parse and run in
       Turbo Pascal 5.5.
