Hitori Dake no Renga - Where Have You Gone, Teddy Kennedy (92)

It is widely reported that Ted Kennedy died yesterday, August
25th, of the malignant glioma he had fought for some time and
finally succumbing at his home in Hyannisport, MA. Goodness knows
there are a great many things I disagreed strongly with Senator
Edward Kennedy about, and his past was as checkered as his
neckwear. That said, he attempted to clean up his image and his
life and maintain the legacy of his brothers, and forge alliances
even with his political detractors. That deserves respect, even
       grudgingly so.

When Tony Snow, the long-suffering George W. Bush presidential
press secretary, died of colon cancer, I noted that many of my
strongly left-leaning friends had a distinct penchant to dance on
his grave. That was, at best, thoroughly self-serving on their
part, and unnecessary. Today I'm seeing that same sentiment from
the other direction. Ted Kennedy may have been a lot of things,
up to and including a drunk and a lethally bad driver, but he was
a hero to those whom he championed, he made his last decade and
change respectable and honourable, and I wouldn't wish brain
       cancer on my worst enemy.

When true evil dies, go ahead and put that disco floor up on
their gravestone. That wasn't it when Tony Snow died. This isn't
       it either.

The Zelig-style image above shows two Edward Kennedys, one older,
       and one just beginning.
