How would you feel about fully anonymous, no-trickery opt-in, short-lived, openly-viewable telemetry for #orogene? Would the very presence of that code taint it for you?It would definitely be super useful to track down errors and understand perf.

Weird to think that if I hadnāt moved out of Florida ~9 years ago, it would literally be illegal for me to use public restrooms of either designation now. And now, I have to make sure that if Iām flying to PR, none of my flights stop in FLL or MIA, because this applies to airports too.Fortunately, most stuff still generally goes through hubs like ATL or JFK. But dang this is depressing.

Just tagged #orogene v0.3.26. Along with a couple of fixes, this vastly improves contextual information when IO errors happen, and makes it so parallel install script execution actually happens in dependency order (it used to be fully-parallel/random). thinking about the niche #orogene fits into, in a world with stuff like bun/deno/etc, and honestly I think the right thing to optimize for isn't node apps, but webdev that happens to use node tooling?I feel like that space has been kinda stagnant for a while. NPM/pnpm/yarn are all kinda basically the same thing, and the few experiments that have happened have kinda flopped straight on their face (like uhhh... PnP/Berry).

I do honestly kinda think node as a backend development platform is on the way out, and largely uninteresting (and a HUGE pain because of the failed modules deployment), but the truth is there's a lot of miscellaneous devtools that still use it as a runtime, and the NPM ecosystem isn't something we should give up any time soon, if ever.But frontend stuff? There's still so much room for growth there that's not limited by how lacking Node itself is!

At least most of the time. I really hope itās different this time around, with Rust. But I definitely think the people responsible for these mistakes have to take accountability, and that means resignation at this point. Or you could think of it as ādowngrading their Rust Project membership from a leadership position to a regular community memberā š¶ļø

Thinking about how much healthier my relationship with social media became after I just left Twitter and kept to mastodon.Like, I donāt just anxiously doom scroll, keep picking arguments online, and I donāt constantly refresh to see engagement on my posts. I just kinda engage with it here and there, and then walk away and live my life until I have something nice to post later. Itās so much nicer.

Not to mention that I use mastodon filters to āauto-CWā things for me and thatās made it possible for me to be extremely selective about what I choose to be exposed to at any given time, without feeling like Iām completely missing conversations when they happen.
