This is a fine community (and a lot more vibrant than it was when I first checked it out years ago) but I'm not in any hurry to abandon that other place given I have spent *years* curating my follow list. I only follow 221 accounts currently, but every one of those has been carefully picked (and kept) over many years.

@strypey @brena we used to have a āpopcorn makerā that just blew really hot air around a chamber. It was pretty effective. The idea was to avoid using oil but we used to add a nob of butter afterwards, anyway.

Having been through many "collective butt clenches" over change at Twitter, I was sceptical that it would self destruct this time, either. However, Musk has put is mad ideas into overdrive.But... A LOT of the discourse being had about why Mastodon is better reveals that many (most?) people don't know what Twitter (of old) could be by using a third party app. Most of the bad was avoidable all along. That this place relies on "not behaving badly" is a concern.

@flyinggeek exactly. What ruins social networks is how many people are in them. I worry that this platform only makes sense as a lifeboat and not a form of transport.

@grammargirl we hear you; we who have been in this situation. The feeling is real.I usually turn into a machine right up until they're wheeled off, or I get home if they're staying in hospital, and then I just emotionally crash.

@grammargirl this reminds me of the Christmas when my wife got sick. Really sick. Two weeks out from Christmas, the plan was a huge meal on Boxing Day (my wife is the cook of the house). Over those two weeks it dwindled to just a normal meal, then leftovers, and finally, I arrived home from the hospital (sans wife) on Boxing Day for pizza that the (adult) kids bought.

@caseyliss the āMacā version of Callsheet doesn't seem to work when I try to share a link and just copy it. Neither the Callsheet link nor web link.Sharing to somewhere like Notes is working perfectly.

Do I have any accomplished Swift developers following me? I sometimes just need a steer from someone who lives and breathes (modern) Swift.Chat-GPT has helped me a lot with some UI stuff, but seems to be missing the point on fundamental data structures.

@strypey nice history. Now do ones for the truck and bus companies. It shouldnāt take long!My dad knew the editor of Rails magazine back in the 80s and 90s. There were regular editorials complaining about the lack of a ālevel playing fieldā, in that rail had to pay for everything including its right of way, where trucking firms got to share the cost with all other road users despite causing the lionās share of wear and tear.I find it ironic that it was the Muldoon government that electrified the Palmy to Te Rapa section.

@futurebird @ErrolNZ all I can say is I started my first full time job on Monday 19th October and the next day the crash happened.
