In theory, its number of accounts talking about that hash tag over last 7 days. Across servers that answered, and had more than 100 active users in last 24 hours.

@ondra yeah. And I don't think I'm getting all servers. It's only top 10 hashtags. I've tried to get more but it appears the functionality to do that might be broken. Looking at it more today.

@Gargron It is nice to hear that because I'm seeing a lot of pseudo gatekeeping along the lines of "all you new people, here's the rules, shoes off, only sit on the furniture that has plastic on it, we don't use the silverware and please wash the disposable plates when you are done" so to speak.

@SwiftOnSecurity I think it's going to fracture a lot of things. There are endless amounts of unwritten rules going on around here. A lot of moderation and such with some relatively flimsy per instance rules (Policy) but no real established wider sets of Policy. Lots of people piping up to tell people they have transgressed though, on these unwritten laws.

Anyone know of an open (or not too expensive) classification #AI for bird pictures that works well?Wanting to build a birdcam bird feeder for my wife that snap shots birds and classifies them.

@federatebot how does this bot help with federation? what problem is it needed to overcome? Legit interested in the answer, not being a smart ass. I feel if a bot like this is needed then there is something amiss in the protocol?

@maxburn @federatebot Not sure, the profile says its following people who post a lot on the infosec instances to help with federation, and I'm doing a lot of research lately on ActivityPub, federation etc and I am curious what is broken that you need a bot, and how the bot helps/fixes it.

@ruud I expect we'll see a lot of similar-style attacks. ActivityPub is a slow, janky, insecure protocol.I wonder if we'll play whack-a-mole with this stuff, or will people actually harden things ahead of time and try and make it resilient?Lets see how federated defense works out.#infosec

So when you are doing threat modelling, if you only have a very limited understanding of who your adversaries are, and what their capabilities are, then you are only going to generate a pretty limited threat model. This leads to only understanding and implementing a limited set of mitigations and often overlooking some potential problem spaces. Also, as people change, data changes, attackers change, your business changes and your product changes, then the potential type and impact of attacks is certainly going to change. So it pays to revisit and update threat models pretty regularly to ensure they are current and you have enumerated and mitigated the right risks.#infosec #threatmodel

@blacklight I want to know how the economy of an internet where it costs businesses a lot more per customer acquisition and where they are selling less product, works? Meta aside, it costs to provide a service and many businesses rely on being able to generate revenue through advertising. How do you propose we deal with the economic consequences of that? It's far more than just affecting Meta or a small amount of advertisers. It's all connected.
