Moderation being an unaccountable black-box is a feature of social media like Twitter, not a bug. The administrators of Mastodon will reach a point where the community is split, but a decision has to be made. This will suck extremely hard.

@SwiftOnSecurity@infosec.exchange That has already happened, more times than I can count. And tbh, I don't think the admins thought they were hard decisions, because servers are separate, and each admins his own one. If the users disagree, they can go and leave, they (usually) don't really care.

@SwiftOnSecurity I think it's going to fracture a lot of things. There are endless amounts of unwritten rules going on around here. A lot of moderation and such with some relatively flimsy per instance rules (Policy) but no real established wider sets of Policy. Lots of people piping up to tell people they have transgressed though, on these unwritten laws.
