Absolutely. In fact I'd go as far to say that there's close to zero people I've known (and I'm pretty well travelled) that I haven't disagreed with on some fundamental point or other. I think meeting, interacting with, and listening to people from many walks of life helps greatly with this (you can still be very selective with who you form stronger bonds with)

@deeznuts @woodrow Yeah, don't get me wrong, I can't accept all that bs either. The fact is though that the vast majority of people I meet IRL, even if they're coming from a pro vax or mask position, are willing to listen to reason. Very few seem to hold the extreme views that get elevated online where it's a whole different ball game.

This is my situation. We discovered my father is in early stages of alzheimers a few months back and my parents are asking for help selling ~0.5 btc to fund a holidayMy inclination is to tell them to wait... but I've been telling them that for years and now time is limited :/

@ademan tbh my own stack is fine and I default to hodling for as long as possible and only selling when absolutely necessary. The corn they want to sell was a gift to them from me a few years ago. It's worth considerably more now than it was then so I think I should just let them enjoy it while they can.

@Evillarry sure, I love fediverse, I just don't think the federated model is ever going to get widespread adoption. Running your own mastodon server is only for the tech savvy and is time consuming so for most people the only option is to join someone elses server and to trust them with the data. Apps using nostr protocol will potentially reduce this friction making it simple to join the network without having to decide who to trust.
