Social conservatism + libertarianism is such an odd mix! Many social conservatives seem v similar to authoritarian collectivists: 'Conform to my preferred set of established norms or be considered evil'I believe in freedom & couldn't give a flying fck what anyone else does

@yeolde it's hard to hold both perspectives, but I teeter sometimes. Libertarianism sounds really good a priori, but a posteriori I'm growing more convinced that without cultural guideposts or a sort of Aristotelian idea of an ideal, flourishing life, enough people drift into hedonistic and self-destructive apathy to drag the entire culture in a harmful direction.I've known atheists who began dragging their children to church because of this reasoning, but I'm not one of them.

@NoSir I get it, but the answer is smaller self determining communities rather than thinking something needs to be changed at the broader cultural level IMO.

@yeolde i believe that's the equilibrium point that a free society would reach, where certain norms would be codified into a local community one was free to exit in favor of a more amenable one. It's just a question of how you get there.
