@prehensile I feel like at some point, maybe during the early stages of industrialization or the formation of the international community, they'd have come up with some kind of arbitrary unit ("arbu") for use in conversions, standards, manufacturing, etc. Species would still use their traditional units for things like body measurement, clothing sizes, etc but you could do conversions with arbu. Different areas might list their traditional units alongside on the signs, though.

@prehensile And that wouldn't stop species from designing social systems around traditional units and converting everything into arbu at the end. A town populated mainly by jaguars could still plan their school day in the traditional unit (naptimes) and even have most of the materials for families list timetables and schedules as such – but they could convert that to time!arbu when reporting their plan to the next layer of authority.

I have an old #blog that I'd like to migrate away from #Wordpress someday. Looking at #Jekyll but very open to suggestions!I'd also gladly take pointers/tutorial recommendations on building practical, lightweight sites. Most of the tutorials I can find are either "baby's first website" or "bloated corporate nightmare"...

I've seen lots of things in the tech sector called walled gardens, from hardware ecosystems to social media. I agree with the sentiment being expressed, but I take issue with the term used.To me, gardens are something beautiful, a form of artistic self-expression intended to spark joy. Calling Apple or Google a walled garden is an insult to gardens.Social media isn't a walled garden, it's a fucking roach motel.

Obviously I wouldn't tell you about the cute ducks without providing photographic evidence. Have some cute ducks, y'all.
