Breaking news: Seeing a cute bird makes people happy.I'm so glad we have professional journalists around to tell us the latest science. How else would I get the most out of my bird encounter?

Less sarcastically, are we really at the point where we're not supposed to know that interacting with animals is good for us? I totally get scientists researching the exact mechanisms of how that _works,_ but framing the article as if I don't already know that birds are cute and looking at them perks up my day is weird at best. More likely, it's an implicit message about what my priorities _should_ be: obviously work comes first, but I should try to avoid burnout (because that'd impair productivity!)...I look forward to rainy days specifically because this pair of Eastern spot-billed ducks always come to visit the campus koi pond. If I'm up early, I'll get my umbrella and go out to see them – I can spend a good 15-20 minutes watching them dabble and preen before they hop out for a nap on the bank and I leave so they can do that peacefully.I don't need to justify that. They're cute ducks, and watching them makes me happy. That's all.

Obviously I wouldn't tell you about the cute ducks without providing photographic evidence. Have some cute ducks, y'all.
