@stux @bradysflungtablet man I really need to watch this show.. but my wife really doesn't like "realistic" sci-fi, the vast nothingness of space worries her, and I know well that The Expanse has various moments that would instill such dread 😂

@stux @Jorge_Irraizoz America is a very strange and terrifying place currently. A friend of mine recently had a holiday out there, staying with family. He had for a long time had visions of moving to live out there. A couple of weeks in the "real" US (rather than tourist traps) & he's 100% abandoned that idea!

@EU_Commission I’m not sure that’s strictly true. Detecting abuse is INCREDIBLY difficult to do reliably. If you depend on automated “AI” systems perpetrators will learn to get around them. If you use human moderators there is too much content to manually review and the mental health tole on moderators is devastating. More needs to be done, but we can’t flippantly make directives & then make it tech companies problem to implement. You must with *with* them.

@cwebber the absurd thing is these sort of blocks are utterly trivial to bypass. Of course that then makes sure as many people as possible will become more aware of encrypted, virtually untraceable, ways of accessing pirate sites meaning they become more and more resilient to geographic blocking.

@realcaseyrollins @stux it makes plenty of sense. The stakeholders of tr*th social will have wanted to protect their “investment”. Anticipating that Trump being allowed back on Birdsite they wrote this in to keep their site instantly becoming irrelevant. It’s stupid, but it makes sense.

@lispi314 @cwebber at least for now we have the benefit that governments are too inept and too wilfully neglectful of actually understanding the technologies they’re trying to regulate to be a serious threat. But that will change in time as more savvy currently younger people find their way into the corridors of power 😔

@EU_Commission I'm not even sure this is a technical possibility without colossal erosion of privacy. Even then users can just move to fully encrypted platforms to instantly get past any and all measures this act will attempt to put in place.

@wjmaggos we could tell a shadow ban by having two accounts and verifying what is visible from one on the other. I’m sure Musk wouldn’t be ethically opposed to such actions BUT it would run counter to his “anything goes!” dumpster fire of a dream. Not that that would stop him. He’d just mock anyone, including formal authorities, calling him out on it >_<
