@ericbuijs Probably one of my most frequented sites. Great resource. DuckDuckGo even has a shortcut for it: !alt

Had my first real drive failure this week. 7.1 TB of (replaceable) data. fsck got the drive at least partially readable again, and allowed ~4TB to be copied to a replacement drive. SnapRAID saved the remaining ~3TB. After fixing permissions and some cleanup of duplicate files in my (mergerfs) drivepool, I am running at 100% less than 48 hours later. That includes purchasing and shipping a replacement drive. Really pleased with the result!

Also shoutout to my own simple script: `broke-backup.sh` for allowing me a simple way to know what files I was missing throughout the process. https://github.com/Wdavery/broke-backup.shHappy to have a real concrete use for something I worked on

@enigmatico @colinsmatt11 @besserwisser I think that is a ridiculous notion. The play button is equally ubiquitous in UIs, and no understanding of the icon is required. Its a symbol representing a concept, the same as + - = and a young child has no trouble with that. No knowledge of what a floppy is bars anyone from knowing what it represents: saving.

@enigmatico @colinsmatt11 @besserwisser You are stuck on the fact that the floppy symbol is also a tangible item. It isn’t to young people, as you said yourself. The shape of the icon is indeed exactly like playback icons. The save button *is* standardized and is in no way connected to the tangible floppy disk item.

@enigmatico @colinsmatt11 @besserwisser And Apple has not introduced a new save button despite this UI research. What does that tell you? It is engrained in society as that symbol, changing it would be silly. We obviously have entirely opposite opinions on this, I get where you’re coming from but I can’t get behind it.

My iPhone 7 is showing it's age these days, and apparently will be unsupported by the end of the year. Any upgrade advice?

I'd love a Linux phone but I'm not in the loop enough to know if its viable yet.Beyond texts/calls, all I really need is core apps: email, cardDAV, calDAV. Most of what I use could be replaced with a browser.I haven't had an android for many years (and only briefly) but I'm totally open to it. Though I would de-google itNothing against an iPhone either, I have no real complaints but something new and exciting would be lovelyWhat are people using these days?

Had to deal with an AnonymousFox hack on my wordpress+cpanel instance this morning.Ultimately not too bad, they didn't get too far before I noticed and got everything locked down. Still... not a great way to wake up. I should really just delete WP. I had intentions of using it in 2018 and it's basically just sat—with occasional updates—since then. It's the biggest hole in my security by a longshot. Lesson learned.

And to be fair to WP I'm not blaming it at all, but I do not maintain it enough for it not to become a gaping security hole.

@kev “Message undeliverable” bouncebacks to my catch-all address. They managed to create a new email account in cpanel. They had changed the password reset email for cpanel to one of their spam emails and got in. I’m honestly not sure how I got in myself but I changed the password, reset everything and then changed passwords again. Looks like they got cpanel files access through an illegitimate WP plugin. Luckily it seems to be a commonly used toolkit so lots of guides for dealing with it.

@kev I’ve set up some additional warnings now. Cpanel emails for each sign in. Wordpress has brute-force protection and emails after a lock out. I think I caught them midway and got away mostly unscathed. Just perfect timing.
