@textfilesI hesitate to suggest anything. Between Twitter and your podcast and watching YT videos, I feel like I'm already borderline stalking you.

Nice!@internetarchive has their own #mastodon instance for their people.I really hope this takes off and we see more orgs running their own small instances. I am suspecting that's the only way this is really going to scale well. Other than ego boost, I can't imagine any advantages to administering a popular, big instance, and the headaches are non-trivial.https://mastodon.archive.org/explore

What are your favorites? As so many do, I spend too much time commuting, and as much as I like listening to music, I have less sense that the time is "wasted" if I'm able to learn something, so history podcasts have been my go-to for a while. But this year I started listening to podcasts about music production and recording--that's part of what got me thinking about going that direction post-Army.So some of my favorites follow. What am I missing?

@Ricardus If there's one thing other social networks should have taught us by now, it's that just because I can't think of a good reason to do something doesn't mean there isn't one. Some things perhaps should be ephemeral. I like that everyone can choose that for themselves.

Doing some research, trying to find somewhere new for our small (25ish people) church to meet. It's a little depressing how many places just decline to rent to churches specifically. It says a lot, I suspect, about how churches have made themselves unwelcome in the rest of society.

@publius The pacific NW is just about the most unchurched part of the country, and western WA in particular is kind of, um, jaded. Most of the time we aren't given a specific reason, just a "churches not allowed" or even once just a flat "no" (for a community center). In more pleasant weather, we do a lot outdoors, meet at parks, etc., but we are entering the cold and rainy season...

@Ricardus I think the idea was to preserve/recreate the less frenzied pace and vibe of the oldschool (well, pre 2022) SDF community. The local timeline is... something else now.Migrating is pretty easy. The notion has crossed my mind, but I'm also still exploring options to run my own instance, so no sense moving twice.

Among the things our instructor told us today:-the Internet really took off in the mid-90s because the OSI model made it possible for computers made by different manufacturers to send data back and forth. Before that, they could only send ASCII files, which are 1s and 0s.-The private IP ranges (e.g. 192.168.x.x) are for special uses. You can rent them for a certain period but then you have to give them back.I sat in front. This was a mistake.#cybersecurity
