@salixlucida Having lived in the Navajo Nation, I have to say that story is a superficial fluff piece. Of course COVID-19 hits the Dine' hard. They have many times the US rate of diabetes and many times the US rate of alcoholism. COVID-19 deaths are the result of the comorbidities, themselves symptoms of deeper underlying social paradigm of (initially) forced dependence.

@xmanmonk @papa @snowdusk_ Hence the naming of malic acid, discovered in apples, but also one of the noticeable organic acids in some coffees.

@nydel Hopefully constructive...Do I sense a lack of confidence in your singing? When the volume of external sound (instruments, crowds, traffic) interferes with hearing yourself, it can throw your pitch off, which can then further deflate confidence. If the guitar were turned down a bit, I think you'd hear yourself better, and we could hear the lyrics better.

@nydel > fuck fuck yes yes to this song, performance(!) & recording.I certainly wasn't expecting that sort of reaction. Thanks! It's a Hoyt Axton song made famous by Three Dog Night. It's actually the least noisy of the open mic videos. Two alternating sound guys there. Talked to one of them about his gear, but that was like 9 or 10 months ago, so no idea there except the restaurant owns the tower Bose that's sometimes at the back of the stage, sometimes off to the side. The "side"

@nydel Living room mic is a Novik FNK 840. Then there's a Xenyx (Behringer) Q1202USB mixer and a pair of Rockville DPM6's.

@Ricardus @Dave Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Tracer course via coursera. Even for those who don't want to be one, it's a good education toward foolishness prevention. Too bad it's not mandatory.

@publius PX and commissaries in Germany in the 70's and 80's (and since, I'm sure) didn't handle pennies. Total came to $4.87, you paid $4.85. Total came to $4.88, you paid $4.90. EVERYONE understood that it all evens out in the end.

Sweden just released it’s completed Week 35 Total Mortality, at 64.4k. This is marginally lower than Week 35 Total Mortality in 2016-17, at 64.7k. Sweden did not lock down this year during the COVID panic. Also, Sweden’s population has increased year over year for the last few decades.https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/06/exclusive-coronavirus-mortality-study-sweden-consistent-us-study-confirms-overall-mortality-not-much-different-bad-seasonal-flu/

@Ricardus Looks like she's "going away" sometime shortly after the 11th. Anyway, that's the implication of a page on BBC that was apparently only there for 22 seconds.

@Ricardus Did you notice the date on that article? 11 July 2020.Many newspapers write up obits ahead of time when celebs appear to be circling the drain (though they don't date them until after the fact). One might wonder if this is something similar... the presumption being that she'll end up "dying of COVID" rather than hanging herself in a cell.If such a presumption exists, one might wonder what the basis for it is, and one might also wonder about the choice of date used.

@Ricardus No, I only saw that photo of the article with a comment saying it was only up on BBC for 22 seconds before being removed. I wish the screenshot had included the URL, but we rarely get what we wish for.

@Ricardus Wife sent it via e-mail. She got it from Facebook. I know nothing about FB, never having had an account. The filename was FB_IMG_1593738183410.jpg if that helps at all.

@cosullivan Having taken the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Tracing course, I feel somewhat more qualified than the average bear. People figuratively spit on you regardless of what you know when it doesn't agree with what they "know." They revel in remaining ignorant because they get to virtue signal. They don't want that taken away.Poll: I don't recall having been asked what I know. I do recall having been pre-emptively told I'm wrong though.

@Ricardus The report isn't so much "going around" as it is simply published on the CDC site. Everyone says "follow the science!" until the science says we're guilty of an unfathomable over-reaction. That would mean "everyone" was wrong. People don't like to think, much less admit, they were wrong.

@Ricardus Surely motorcycle accidents and gunshot wounds shouldn't be counted as "covid deaths."Yet they have been. The "Data" is unbelievably malleable. Even the PCR test is completely manipulable depending on how you "set" its sensitivity. Currently that "setting" is 33 to 37 cycles.Why?1/

@cosullivan I don't *know* what it means, but I'd guess Kiz is feeling the need to watch (or subscribe to) voot.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VootAs to the rest... not quite sure why it's your job to calm anxious people. If they want to be anxious, let 'em have at it.
