@sir you did good and hopefully more people are doing the same, but to be honest I don't think they really care anymore :-/

@sir I would like this "nomadic identities" thing here in Mastodon, specially if it could announce migrations to your followers.

@sir I believe their sorting algorithm do that temperately on popular posts to incentivize a diverse discussion, but it might go back to the top after some time. You can email them to check, I always had good communication with the mods.

@sir interesting! (and not in the sense) I believe I saw this behaviour before, but I thought it was done algorithmically :/

@sir @ben controversial opinion: stylesheets are useless. Let users be able to choose how they want to display hypertext, like in the old days when you could choose default background colour and typeface.

@sir @ben yeah I know, there are cases when we use CSS to build specialized layouts that must obey some order, but I think then we are using stylesheets for something that semantic HTML was supposed to do: if the order of the information is meaningful then the order is itself information (which is for instance why a tag like <ol> exists). Some people may find this laughable, but I still believe languages like XHTML were heading in the right direction.

@sir to be honest I find things like Matrix and Slack quite stressful, mostly because of one being always reachable and ones messages being eternally available. IRC is more like a pub, where you can go when you want to have interesting conversations with strange people or just have a good time with your mates. Oh yes... back then logging chats was considered rude by most 👴

@sir If I remember correctly the original name for HN was going to be "Startup News", which is pretty close to your proposal.

I never like to criticize FOSS but I have tried to use Riot/Element with friends so many times and the UX is unfortunately always awful: awkward user flow, cryptic icons without labels, and just generally unintuitive. I hope with the next iteration all this will get improved.

@sir It is indeed an inflection point for the US, but it's not all lost just yet. Seriously try your best to make everyone you know to vote in November. RIP #RBG

@louis @Gargron defederation is such an extreme option, admins should only use it in cases of clearly malicious or negligent instances. Imagine if network operators acted like "hey I am gonna black hole your AS because we have received spam from this IP of yours a couple of hours ago" and then you cut communication for hundreds of thousands of people...

Is it possible to make #Emacs guess whether to indent using spaces or tabs based on the style used in the current buffer? (or even just the current line)
