@kaia depends. If it is relatively sure that you come across different devices like usb serial adapters i configure all or at least the most common. But stuff like GPU or network cards, where I don't expect different drivers i use only those.

@grillchen @kaia Currently I'm trying to move to aarch64 by misusing a chromebook. So for the short while I'll use the kernel it came with, but in the long run I hope to get a mainline or gentoo kernel running on it as well.But switching from uefi/grub to depthcharge and learning about device trees is another steep learning curve for me

@kaia in theory possible, but my experience said that works with usb-drives for around a week tops, after that they implode.But you could use that usb-drive to start gparted (e.g. from systemrescuecd) and resize /boot to something like 1GB. After your backups of course :)
