does someone know how I can download a #MacOS iso / recovery USB medium without having a #Mac? the official website prompts me to use the Apple store, but I don't have a Mac device.

@kaia cant you just boot into the startup menu thing and just reinstall the native MacOS.I think my macbook air has a memory chip that contains the version of the OS it shipped with and it can format itself

@kaia @Ergo Decades ago every mac had a "recovery" partition with the OS on it. Do not know if that is still the case.https://support.apple.com/de-ch/guide/mac-help/mchl338cf9a8/mac

@kaia@brotka.st Is only possible until 10.12 see here https://support.apple.com/en-us/102662 at Use a web browser for older versions for all other versions you need a Mac or someone with a Mac https://support.apple.com/en-us/101578

@kaia@brotka.st Ohh, and skip 10.7 as Apple updated the TLS versions round 2019 or 2021 at the App store. So, no updates for 10.7.

@Ergo@shitposter.world @kaia@brotka.st FYI https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/reinstall-macos-mchlp1599/mac works since 10.7 on Intel Macs.Edit, on old Intel machines the WiFi must be not a hidden network. Not tried on my M2.

@kaia it’s like command+shift+R on startup gets you into Online Recovery where it boots enough network to download and reinstall by itself hang on that’s for Intel Macs you just long press power to turn on for Apple silicon modelshttps://support.apple.com/en-us/102518 will get you into Apple recovery and it has the ability to download an image if it needs

@Ergo@shitposter.world @kaia@brotka.st My last call to them was short, just to reactivate a self deactivated Apple account which you can´t unlock self online.
