@TheGibson one of my first projects at Amazon (in 2000) was to put a wishlist button everywhere there was an add to cart button. I reversed the “add to cart” v “preorder” logic on music search, probably cost ~$100k in sales over 24hr. More than twice my annual salary at the time.

There are several people I was very happy to be able to follow here, when they “moved” over from Twitter. However, some of them are using Twitter-to-Mastodon cross posters, and don’t actually interact here, and I think at some point I’m going to stop following people doing that.I was really annoyed, centuries ago, when Twitter turned into a broadcast-only medium for so many. I really don’t want that happening here, and I don’t want to encourage it by following such people.

Thermostat is configured to kick on the A/C at 80F. It might kick on in the next week. I don't like the idea of running the heat and the a/c on the same day, but here we are.

Heat goes down to 60-something at night, back to 71 in the morning. But on clear days, the sun pouring in thru the windows in afternoon are turning the entire top floor into a bit of an oven. Not looking forward to august.

Need to look into smarter thermostats, too. Something I can connect to the automation, and maybe have it NOT go up to 71 if the weather is expected to be sunny in the afternoon? Something like that. Meh.

I think the problems with the camera are thermal. Apparently these are known for heat problems. Don’t know what to do about it. Not like I can just slap a fan on it and plug into a spare header.Should just punch a hole out the wall and mount a PoE camera out there or something.

I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of running the furnace and the air conditioning on the same day. But my skin /hurts/ below about 67, and my brain stops working properly the further you get above 75 until I'm completely useless circa 80. There's a seasonal shift to the range, of course. And this has changed over the years, too (when I was 18, I used to keep my bedroom at 80 year round and it was perfect).Unfortunately, the vast majority of houses aren't THAT great at keeping within such a narrow temperature range. This one seems to be a bit worse than the last one, and in some ways even worse than the one before that.But, the contractors are coming tomorrow, with their window guy (and their roofing/siding guy) to see if there's anything they can do.

What I need is a good house-grade thermal storage system. Collect the heat in the evening, keep it out of the living space, then pump it back in over night.Note to self: install a tank of molten salt in the back yard.
