@fiee if you want to try more I have some suggestions: 1. If not having contacts on XMPP is an onboarding issue: if your contacts use Android, I recommend #quicksyim by the #conversations developer. Has similar easy setup and contact discovery as Signal, but uses XMPP. Very nice user experience. #SnikketIM app and server allows you to send invites with an on boarding flow that guides your contact to download the app and create an account on your server. @fiee @fiee them up in "circles" so that all the people they know on the service will be automatically added to their contacts on Snikket. This solves the discovery issue partially in a privacy-respecting way.2. Do you know about Monal? By not-current, do you mean not up to date? An old version? 3. @fiee Never had an issue after installation. I'm not very experienced with servers and set it up in 2 hours. Snikket group chat was very helpful. You use docker, and it deals with Let's Encrypt certs for you. Hope this helps!

@fiee No problem, too bad about the MacOS/Monal... I like to think of the invitation thing similar to dietary preferences. Say, if I prefer to eat plant-based (use XMPP) and someone invites me over for dinner, I can ask that they accommodate me (send them a Snikket invitation, with a short message explaining why I prefer this). If they will join- amazing, if not- I am left to explore alternatives. Am I willing to compromise of my values of decentralization and ownership?, if so I will use...

Signal. I have clear boundaries such as not compromising on security and privacy. I've found that most people are willing to accommodate me. Especially when I ask nicely :)

@fiee It's not a closed network at all. If fact the Snikket server is just Prosody server (made by the same devs) with a bunch of stuff preconfigured to make it easier to self host. Yes, they definitely do try to establish it as its own thing. I believe this is positive, to create a similar cross platform UX and appeal to most consumers these days who care more about a brand than a protocol...

@fiee From chatting with the developers in the #SnikketIM chat, I don't have concerns about this project moving away from the #xmpp community's values of open standards, data ownership, privacy, security, decentralization, and federation. (However with Matrix/Element, I do.)

@milan I believe with such things it's best to not limit individuals freedoms (no matter how small). If people want to do something they will keep doing it, in this case perhaps maybe in the form of GIFs or photos (if I understand the situation correctly). However as an admin, I might feel differently. Not being an admin, if someone posts something and I am upset or disturbed by the image, I can chose to not see posts by that person. Best #music player solution for #android?Best music #tagger as well?I like VLC as a player, but it has a few bugs and my main issue is that if I change the structure of my files in my library, those files are considered missing if they are in a playlist I made in VLC. Also no ability to backup playlists that I have made. As a tagger I have tried Vanilla Music with tagger plugin, though it is slow as you can only select one song at a time and need to scroll down to the type of tag every time.

@edgren Nice, I'm using it and its working well! I dont really understand the playlist synchronization feature, do you? I would like Vanilla to recognize that all my playlist are in my playlist folder in my music folder and sync them to the "Playlists" tab in Vanilla. Also when I add a song to a playlist using Vanilla Music I would like that to reflect in the files and folders in my music folder. Know of any way to set this up?
