@mjg59 it seems that all most govt's want to do anymore is squeeze the poor for all they have and leave them as suffering husks, and because they don't want to be the ones to do the dirty work to get it, they just bring in the companies. Same with health care :(-Ari

@calculsoberic We've working with more "conventional" languages, as most would call them (Java, C, C# (to a very small extent), Rust, Python, and a touch of JS) and none of them really felt too much harder than each other even at more advanced levels. The hardest to wrap our head around was probably Java and Python when classes got introduced because it tends to go completely against the way we like to structure things. C and Rust have felt the most logical so far, and JS is...JS.-Ari

@calculsoberic Agreed, though some small differences in syntax can easily throw you for a loop on how to do things!-Ari

@calculsoberic Yep.A fun example of this a few days back was that we were trying to edit our system GRUB config and another config file at the same time and accidentally copied a single comma from the other file into the GRUB config and so the file wouldn't parse and would give cryptic errors over and over, took 30 mins to find that.We think that parsers need better error displays (if possible) to aid with syntax issues.-Ari

@calculsoberic We started figuring stuff about gender and sexuality about 3-4 years ago and it's been one hell of a wild ride.-Ari

@BrodieOnLinux We agree. Regarding nerdiness, however, while we care about Xorg and Wayland and love getting into the nitty gritty, we've relegated most of it down to "If it works on our machine, it's good enough for us and if something else works better for you, you use it". For us, Xorg works fine and Wayland has been buggy so we use Xorg. Also we hate the constant fights between Wayland and Xorg users, it's useless fighting that only serves to add drama instead of fixing anything.-Ari

@BrodieOnLinux While we agree with the deletion of this repo, we believe that there needs to be a nice long talk about this technology and drilling it into everyone's minds hat shit like this is to NEVER be implemented again lest the end of the internet as we know it. And well, that wouldn't exactly be good ofc.-Astrid

@Jain Yea, this all started because our parents decided to try to take as corporate as possible a stand on software and act like everything that's closed source is a billion times better than any open souce software could ever be yadda yadda....-Astrid

@Jain Our parents have very strong denial to almost all this stuff and act like it doesn't exist or that it doesn't affect them. For example, last week we tried to explain to our dad how windows 10 and 11 force updates on the user and how that bricked our BIOS (fuck you Dell and M$) but he kept trying to fight back and when we SHOWED him the auto update, he just said "nah you're just wrong"These are the people who are trying to hold this discussion on tech with us and it ticks us off.-Astrid

@Jain We tried going the political route but considering they're very scattershot on politics in general it didn't go very well. They rant about planned obsolescence but in the same breath say "oh it doesn't affect me, I'll use $DEVICE until it dies and then get a new one maybe. It doesn't affect me what the corpos do"He thinks we "overthink it all" and tries to push us back to blissful ignorance in windows on a daily basis and gah it is annoying af. To him 99.9999% of the world doesn't matter. All that matters is that he can do his job and make money and that "wokeism" doesn't get him and that people "go back to being centrist" whatever the hell that means... We literally see him out of his home office for maybe 1hr a day...They (mum and dad both) are in-fucking-furiating-Astrid
