On a final comedic twist to a disrupted day of travel, the train to which I was to connect at Würzberg for Nuremberg has been cancelled. The next train to Nuremberg will be the one we were kicked off at Hannover (running 84 minutes late).

@publius I'm hoping it was just a bad day, but from what I've heard, DB seem to be having a lot of bad days recently.Good luck with your trip, but the majority of trains I observed were only 10 to 15 minutes late.

Ooh! I didn't realise this, but this train passes through the Gotthard Base Tunnel! At just over 57km long, it is the longest and deepest railway tunnel in the world.The tunnel was closed between August 2023 and 2 September 2024 due to damage caused by a freight train derailment.

Shunting locomotive at Ùstà Nad Labem Západ station in Czechia.This station was a little wild to me from a rail safety perspective. There were 5 platforms, four of which were at track level and about 1m wide. All were accessed by a cross-track walkway with no active protection.The locomotive pictured was shunting goods wagons back and forth over the public walkway. There were also express goods and passenger trains running through regularly.#train #czechia

So, thanks to the cancelled ICE train, I'm rerouting myself via Hannover. If I can make a 9 minute connection, and the Copenhagen train is more than 5 minutes late, I might be able to catch it. If not, there's 1 hour & 57 minutes in Hamburg and hope I can find a seat on the next Copenhagen train.

My polling place is right on the border of two electorates, so there were two lines. The lines were less than 5 minutes long, but extended past where the AEC volunteers were working.The people handing out the different flavours of how-to-vote cards were working together to sort arrivals, then politely taking turns to ask if people would like their how-to-vote card. Very civilized, 5 stars, would vote again.
