@strypey people still might need a log-in on each platform. Hubzilla has had a known solution for one log-in across multiple platforms but nobody in ActivityPub protocol design has cared, apparently.

@clacke @strypey if I may dredge up an old thread, do you have any updated views on #Holochain 's #CAL ?The licence itself seems to be an amalgam of an improvement over AGPL w.r.t data and LGPL-like permissions for parts of the subject of the #Licence . Mostly good, the only gripe might be that it will take lawyers to confirm if it is trouble-free for open projects to use it or Holochain and the like. But that seems "just" 1 "autonomy audit" away.

@clacke @strypey in hindsight, the drama over the drafting process of the #Holochain #CAL seems to be fear of it being more effective in promoting #FLOSS than #FSF or #OSI #Licence s. You did voice concerns about FUD, but wouldn't you say that FUD against GPL failed (people serious about software were not all sheeple)? And I bet the people behind that FUD themselves free-loaded off GPL'ed software (and stayed silent on the more effective AGPL - probably stayed silent on the CAL too?).

#ActivityPub #spam seems to be spreading nowadays. It isn't new, I moved away from my previous instance because it didn't have active mod volunteers.#Snikket's idea of invites (#XMPP, not AP) seems like a good way to both control spam and onboard users. Mods can rate-limit account creation by judiciously creating invites. Users can generate 1 invite each, but can expect to also get banned if their invitee is a spammer. User-invited users would have a real account to bootstrap their connections.

@volkris not surprising, maybe the protocol handshake involves knowing just the sending server, not the sending account?

@strypey you boostedhttps://mastodon.social/@tomat0/110436554609027254on social coding's ideas.Everything the OP says is accomplished by #AGPL + https://spi-inc.org without the social overheads their proposal has.The most useful point was probably about the number of "me-too" projects that abound in #FOSS. The most irritating for me way back was #GNU Sather. Focusing on formats/protocols is useful, and the #4opens approach soounds better for that than FOSS.

#SelfHosted #Bookmarks directory. #vCards.Does anybody store links as ... entries in their device's addressbook? Store a "Website" field, no "Phone" field, and keywords in the name fields. It might even be standards-compliant, and hence as easy to export and back up as your contacts. And your contacts search will be usable for bookmark search.I have recently started doing this, and don't yet know how it will work out.CC @icedquinn

@strypey sorry, how does connecting with other networks relate to moving services with connections intact?#XMPP has #XEP, for servers to specify what features they support. Unless AP servers start enforcing that supported #FEP s be specified, you don't know that a new kid (bully?) on the block will both federate and support account portability (or when they stop supporting something).

@strypey> separate forum for fediverse fundingApologies if you intended it to be a "public DM".Might the explicit use of the word funding put off people? If money is incidental in practice, maybe an existing or new forum for community which organically discusses funding?

@strypey would be interested in your summary of it. Many of these solutions sound divorced from what happens on the ground, only some adjunct approaches like loomio look useful.

@strypey out of curiosity, does your native language have a term (or terms) for tolerance?English is an ... inadequate language (free/libre/open source software #FLOSS people know it!). Tolerance might mean different things to different people.Personally, a native term close to tolerate I know basically means "withstand". I wouldn't make a virtue of people having to withstand too many things. With that background, tolerance (if different from withstanding) seems wholly artificial.

@strypey ID should be separate from services. In the age of Git hosting services making an #SSH certificate required to interact with them via Git, it should be worth a try getting academics to use #GPG keys like some computer practitioners do.
