The frustrating part of #Erlang is that the language is so well designed that I always want to go back to it even though the ecosystem is a huge PITA. I should probably start to extend what I already wrote on the build part to handle more complex systems with dependencies.

@galdor Do you like Erlang more than Elixir? I have never used either, but as far as I understand they both run on the same VM right? I am asking because at some point I was interested in Elixir

@djrmarques Elixir has some interesting aspects (such as daring to use binary strings by default, which should be the case in Erlang) and they actually worked to improve the tooling. But replacing a very clean, regular and readable syntax by a Ruby-inspired monstruosity makes no sense and kills every interest I may have had in the language. And of course it got swallowed by a bank (Nubank) the same way as Clojure. This does not help.

@galdorErlang fan here. Where could I read more about a takeover by banks? I thought Elixir was used across industries e.g. Toyota was using it.@djrmarques

@tetrislife @djrmarques Plataformatec was bought by Nubank in 2020.

@galdor @tetrislife @djrmarques Elixir was created by the wonderful @josevalim who formed https://dashbit.co/ after leaving Plataformatec, (which kindly allowed Elixir to evolve independently). The Elixir & Erlang communities joined forces to create https://erlef.org/, which now advances & evangelizes both languages and the broader BEAM ecosystem. Sorry to hear your frustrations with the Erlang ecosystem. You can raise your concerns to Erlef.org and/or try out Elixir. It's wonderful!
