@futurebird oh I should watch it. I want to believe that every species of insect has a complementary parasitoid wasp species but probably nobody knows and it’s way more complicated than I can imagine

@futurebird a friend, terrified of wasps, asserted emphatically that wasps are terrible and must be eradicated. And I said, what about the wonderful and plentiful parasitoids? But she was horrified and became even more emphatic, and I was sad.

@futurebird I took a week off, missed some news, caught up later. It was worth it (didn't change the world, maybe changed me a little)

@futurebird Republicans shut down the child tax credit though. There’s a huge gap between what they say and what they mean.

@futurebird I guess if people kept chickens mostly for eggs they would rarely kill one for food, but in the cities they were expensive. I'm trying to remember where I read this now :)

@futurebird Wikipedia says "In the United States in the 1800s, chicken was more expensive than other meats and it was "sought by the rich because [it is] so costly as to be an uncommon dish." — it references a Good Housekeeping article from 2016 that is no longer available.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_as_food

@futurebird Egyptian hieroglyphs were used from at least the 28th century BC right up until the 4th century AD. People using the same writing system for about 3200 years blows my caveman mind.
