I need to finish Onmyoji and Tengu Eyes Vol.2 I'm well into it, but got busy and haven't been able to finish yet. "Traces of Two Pasts" and the rest of "Memories of Heroes" are also on my list to finish up.

First MC that came to mind I wanted to say, "with violence" lol. This is why the characters switch places and take the lead for different things. One is good for typical professional business relations, one for underground mafia-like business, one for intimidating people, one when you need someone more blunt/loud, etc...They pick who is best to handle each situation. And often bolster each other. The loud one can call out BS during a business meeting so that the "friendly" businessman doesn't have to say it himself, and so that their businessman can quickly bring him back under control and look calm and in charge.

Funny enough, the place of refuge is also one of the most dangerous places in their world. One of their countries lives in a dangerous climate normally, so when the world needs a safe place to retreat to, that's where they go. As long as they can survive the weather, it'll keep a lot of other dangers at bay. It'd be like retreating into the middle of Siberia and waiting for the weather to take care of your enemies.

A little slow at the moment, but it'll be done eventually. Mostly still waiting on art.

Maybe not THAT distinctive, but one particularly like a military helicopter. Considering the world is in an apocalypse-type setting at the beginning, flying around in a helicopter is a bit unique.

It's definitely grown, and as for decades before or after... No. The events of the story make it so that things only go down because of certain circumstances at that particular time. And then, after, the cultures of the countries change irreversibly so that they wouldn't find themselves in the same situation again. Two countries that never met before, for example, become closely allied due to two key players from each country becoming close during the course of the story. So two countries that were extremely isolated suddenly have an enduring alliance.

Young to mid, though I tend to write characters growing older quite a bit. Sometimes I start them young because I know important events happen in 20 years, and I want them to still fall into a certain age range by the time that happens. Particularly if they'll still be involved in battle, they need to be young enough to decently keep up.

I like to wrap up one major story point and introduce questions about the next one. For example, "Characters find and resolve an issue with X antagonist." "X antagonist leaves behind a clue about character Y, who may or may not have been working with him."

One of my stories was originally written on one side of the war between three countries, with two countries being smaller and one being overwhelmingly larger and more advanced. Then I needed to flesh out what the bigger country was like, and ended up writing entire stories about that country. Now the majority of what I've written takes place in the country that I developed last.

Light novel readers in the fantasy/romance genre might like the Revolutionary Reprise of the Blue Rose Princess. Follows a lot of the reincarnation tropes you see today, but then develops a lot of the side characters and has political intrigue.

I never really thought of mentoring, but I suppose when I talk about the editing process and such I can give insight into different things to look out for.

A lot of mine are "What ifs". You're reading a story, and maybe anticipating the next part to come out, but then it doesn't play out at all like you expected. Or maybe it doesn't pay off stuff it set up, and then the ideas start flowing.

For the one I'm currently working on, yes. It's actually part of a background joke as one of the characters continuously makes up details about a holiday that, for one reason or another, happen to end up sounding like Christmas.

My main setback was waiting for an artist who took a long, long time to get to my stuff. So I had to turn around and find another artist. Probably set me back 8 months for releasing my book.

I think the Haunted Mansion in Onmyoji and Tengu Eyes (vol 1). I just liked the description of the creepy ghost mansion that only appeared at night.

An alien race. The MC specifically doesn't know/remember anything about them, so it's better to leave them an overall mystery. You just have to glean what you can from what little information there is. The MC has to accept this mystery as he himself decides to blow up what's left of any remaining traces, destroying any hope of learning more.
