@tschaefer @quux It's possible that might be oversimplifying the transition just a little bit, heh heh.But honestly, how's it going? Is it a when-not-if situation, or is IPv6 still not a sure thing?

A great kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus) this morning in Sayulita, Mexico. It's a relatively common flycatcher in South and Central America, but I hadn't seen one until yesterday. Somewhat noisy, and happily inclined to perch photogenically.#Bird #Birding #Birds #Yellow #NaturePhotography #Photography

Intel's Meteor Lake processor, now formally called simply Core Ultra, will go on sale December 14, Gelsinger says. "Intel Meteor Lake is a tour de force," he boasts, talking about its Intel 4 compute tile and built-in AI acceleration. Here's our story. https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/intel-sneaks-battery-saving-tricks-into-its-meteor-lake-pc-processor/ 7/n

Intel's Arrow Lake PC processor is in the works for 2024, too. Here's a 300mm wafer studded with Arrow Lake compute tiles built on the Intel 20A manufacturing process — the fourth of the five nodes in four years plan to restore Intel chipmaking competitiveness. 9/n

Surprise! Intel is working not just on a honking big 144-core Sierra Forest Xeon server processor (as announced), but also a 288-core two-tile model that CEO Pat Gelsinger showed off. 10/n#Xeon #Intel #processors

Intel is talking up its Intel 18A manufacturing process, the culmination of its 5N4Y recovery plan. Gelsinger said Intel's 18A PC processor is called Panther Lake. Here he is holding a 300mm wafer of 18A processors (not Panther Lake, though). 11/n#Intel #18A #processors

Intel 18A isn't the last node on the manufacturing process roadmap. For the first time, we saw hints of three more generations. Gelsinger promised next-gen gate all around (RibbonFET) and backside power (PowerVia). High numeric aperture EUV for finer lithography could come with 18A. 12/n

Gelsinger showed a different flavor of its glass substrate technology in which processors were mounted directly to a 300mm wafer of glass. Intel expects glass substrates will do better when it comes to power, speed, and processor size. 13/n

A yellow warbler (Setophaga petechia) last weekend near Sayulita, Mexico. Relatively common across the US, too, but often hiding in the bushes. The males' song during breeding season sounds like "Sweet sweet sweet, I'm so sweet," but of course the message is "get the f*** away, rivals, this is my patch." Friend of mine calls these yellow wobblers.#birds #Birding #NaturePhotography #Mexico #Yellow #Photography #

Quite an alignment in the NASA Astronomy Photo of the Day a few days ago. Took six years for the photographer to get the right weather. https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap231225.html

I just went through 2 weeks at 11°F to 41°F, most of it below freezing, in a house heated by one heat pump. It worked very well. New options work in even lower temperatures: https://www.cnet.com/home/energy-and-utilities/most-heat-pumps-slow-down-in-frigid-cold-new-models-shown-at-ces-could-change-that/#CES #HeatPump #Energy #EnergyEfficiency

@mrcippy 1. To be fair he did have that "pending regulatory approval" qualifier, which is like saying, "The US will start reducing its federal budget deficit by the end of the year, pending bipartisan legislation forged by honest, good-faith discussions in Congress that sets the nation's spending priorities for the next 25 years with fairness and prosperity in mind."2. Not sure a stock pop is the point. He scored on distraction from missing and for raising robotaxi awareness.

@foone It's actually math: 6 minus 6 = 0. So maybe good for a baby shower present.
