@HerraBRE This brings to mind two problems I see so many techies struggle with:1. They only know one way to skin a cat.2. If they know multiple ways to skin a cat, they have trouble deciding how best to skin a particular cat.

I just did something outrageously stupid. Not only did I create a mailing list for sharing updates on my writing, but I also created an old-fashioned interactive mailing list where subscribers can reply to my messages or start new threads of their own.Because I miss old-fashioned email based social interaction. They're both public-access with public archives, and hosted at https://lists.sr.ht/~demifiend/

The term "sovereign citizen" is an oxymoron.A citizen is a person subject to the laws of a particular place and has a reasonable expectation of protection under the law.A sovereign individual is not subject to law, can expect no protection but what they can provide themselves or buy from others. An individual cannot credibly claim to be sovereign unless they treat attempts to coerce them as acts of war, but becoming a citizen entails delegating violence to the state.

@kimdanes #author here. Please check out your local public library instead. Unlike Library Genesis, the authors get paid for the books available at your local library.

Some people might wonder how I can spend an afternoon #writing while my partner is undergoing surgery, but that's what she said I should do today.I get updates by phone from an OR nurse, and I can drive to hospital quickly if something comes up. And she likes it when I read new stuff to her in bed.Hard to believe I haven't finished Chapter 1 of Dissident Aggressor, but already have 5180 words down. Some of them are footnotes, though.

@trwnh Well, what *are* your favorite bands? I mainly listen to #metal, #jazz, #progrock, and #EuropeanClassical, and recently dug up my #IronMaiden and #BruceDickinson albums. But I've also been listening to the Hexenhammer album by a Swiss act called #BurningWitches.

Old computers that can't run new versions of Windows at an acceptable level of performance can still be useful.Try installing a free operating system like ReactOS, OpenBSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, GhostBSD, or Debian GNU/Linux -- or pay a friendly local techie to do it for you.It might not play your favorite games or run your favorite apps, but if you're willing to learn you can escape the upgrade treadmill, save money, and stick it to the man.

@arisunz What I want to know is why there isn't a standard plain text markup scheme that can be used to create electronic music.

@gargron How about hiring some moderators and paying them, then? Put your money where your mouth is.

The world owes each of us a living. It's not like any of us asked to be here, after all.Anybody who tells you otherwise is a cop.

@lain Wait. Are you sure that's not an early development screenshot from FFXIII? I think that's Barthandelus in the middle.
