Why use GNOME OS? I think Fedora works very well in giving you a good default GNOME experience. And of course there's always Arch and Gentoo which are DIY distros that you can just customize to have it work exactly like you want, though those are for more advanced users. GNOME says on their site that GNOME OS is not meant for everyday use.

I don't see a reason to use Omarchy the same way I don't see a reason to use doom emacs. It's just someone else's config. And you are always better off configuring them yourself and learning how they work rather than use someone else's config.

@gratislimsa@mastodon.social yeah unfortunately. I am forced to use one because of my job. But if you can stop using one then definitely go for it

I finally learned more about how to use the Commodore 64 and I just love this computer. Old computers were really better. Programming on them was also way less complex. Things were just easier to understand. Well that's my experience so far at least. Writing software for the Commodore 64 isn't too difficult either. I had a lot of fun with it. It's not even a computer that came out in my time, but way before I was even born. I wish computers were just fun to use again.

@gratislimsa@mastodon.social that's the problem, difficult to understand. Things used to be more simple. And it really depends what you mean by easy to use. If you mean browsing the web, watching videos installing programs and things like that then yes. But when it comes to programming and understand how your system works and know your way around it, its way more difficult.

It's very weird how when you leave social media you feel like you're different from everyone. Or that you're the odd one out or if you don't bring your smartphone with you everywhere you go. Everytime I go on a break or I go outside on a walk I see people scrolling on their phone and I am not. It's like people are so addicted to it they just can't put it away or imagine living without it. The moment they don't have something to do or something to keep their attention they pull they phone out their pocket and start scrolling. As for me I don't bring my phone with me, it stays at home and I only check it once a day to see if someone called me. All I bring with me is my laptop and I use it for programming and tinkering. Not mindlessly scrolling webpages.

Sometimes I feel everytime I talk to someone IRL I am bothering them and they don't want to have a conversation unless there's something in it for them. Or sometimes people just use me as that one person to talk to when they are bored and the moment they see someone else they completely ignore me and leave. It happens all the time. This is why I'd rather be alone doing things I like because everytime I talk to someone it's always the same. I am just their "thing" they use to pass the time because they're bored. If I died tomorrow they would probably pretend to care for a few weeks then I'd be old news and no one would be thinking about me anymore. So I feel like talking to anyone is just a waste of me because I could be doing better things. Like learning more about computers and all.

Nothing new here. They been using video games to recruit people for a long time. It was mainly to recruit people in the military though but now they use it for that. They want to make them think it's just like in the video games or something. Or that it's the cool thing to do. No wonder they don't care about people's life and kill innocent civilians it's all a game to them.

"Windows XP were the good days""Windows 7 was when it was great"The only time Microsoft was great imo was before Windows, back in the MS-DOS and BASIC days. Things were much better back then. They were much simpler too. And it was easier to know your whole OS by heart and how everything works and also tinkering with it. Things only got worse as it got more complex.

@gratislimsa@mastodon.social I'm 30 and back in my time it was Windows95 and XP. I only found about those other ones later. But yeah corporation are bad and community run OS are usually much better.

@gratislimsa@mastodon.social of course free software is always best but the older stuff was more simple and I guess easier to reverse engineer? And of course some old computers didn't even have networking and Even less internet access.

I really feel like I am insane sometimes for caring about freedom and privacy when I am constantly surrounded by people who don't not only because they don't know better, but they don't even want to know.

Computers should be simple and every computer should come with a manual that explains everything about the computer and how to program on it. Just like it used to be in the past. People should learn how to program them to use them. Software should be simple and the code and documentation should be easy to read and understand. People should be encouraged to make changes to their system so it behaves how they want it to rather than learning how a company wants them to use their computer.

Everyone feels fake nowadays in most of my real life interaction. I often hear some say things like "go outside", "get a job", "get laid" I got all 3 and I wish I didn't. If I go outside you get people who drive dangerously, jobs are just bs and I work only for the money, I hate my job I wish I could just be home all day and learn more about computers and dedicate more time for my hobbies. Sometimes I feel like I don't have time for anything and I am just speed running life to death. I wouldn't be the type who plays video games and watch TV all day.

@Zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith exactly. No more fancy UI and all that crap. Your computer shouldn't be designed by someone who think you're too stupid to use a computer.

I hate today how most tech is obsolete after a few years. Either batteries that don't last or no more software support because too old even though you only bought it a few years ago

Tries to install some app from 2018 "This app isn't compatible with your version of Android" but if you use android from 2018 it will work but won't work with more recent apps. I hate android. Even with graphene OS android still sucks. You just get the best version of this shitty OS.
