@Luca I suggest you also match on an initial 🐘 in place of the initial @, that's also a variant in use.

@matthew_d_green @StephenJudge It's all of ioc.exchange, they filter the name on their filtered service but resolve it on the unfiltered one.

@rysiek Honestly, the most insane thing to come out recently is "stack ranking by lines of code".Like, what?Is this Microsoft in 1997?

@mansr It has that (the "group boosts" option in the settings), except what it means is that there at least 40 posts between two subsequent boosts of the same post. So... not ideal nowadays.https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/f17fc5742e539db10e0e430f5218c440849b894c/app/lib/feed_manager.rb#L15

@mansr "Let's store whether a particular post was delivered to a user's timeline for a month, for every post, for every user": not going to happen.

@niconiconi @erincandescent Wait, it uses Fortran 90 but LINPACK instead of LAPACK? That would have been extravagant even then.

@niconiconi @erincandescent I see. I've now checked the code, and that's clearly Fortran 77, and I think it's also using LAPACK, not LINPACK.

@strypey They can even run JavaScript on the server if they love it so much

@strypey Let's be fair, though, running nodejs on a server is not like running electron. In fact, there's a very good chance that if this service here were a nodejs rather than a Rails application, it'd be quite a bit more resource efficient.

@ignaloidas @wolf480pl Austria has a price comparison website with really good filters that started as a PC parts listing but (besides extending to many German and EU sellers) now does this for many product categories, with the same good filters in each category. I'm not sure how exactly they do it -- if their importance in the market means the sellers give them the data they ask for, or if they have staff doing this themselves and doing it properly -- but evidently it is possible.
