@craftyguy true that. The inverse of "If you don't pay for the product you are the product" is not necessarily true unfortunately.Just because you pay for a service is no guarantee that they rip off and sell your data anyway.

@Castopod I like the general idea of portable identities. However reading https://nostr.com/comparisons/mastodon I am not at all clear how #nostr is better.E.g. the claim that there is no incentive to run #mastodon servers, or them being run my amateurs. So where is the incentive to run nostr backends instead and why would the pros want to run them?Not trying to be negative, but this page has not convinced me....

@dave if the #BBC is a government-funded broadcaster, #Tesla is a government-funded car maker due to the immense subsidies they get for new factories (and for each EV they sell in eg Germany).
