@galdor I've heard many people mention straight, what does it offer over use-package?Is it because it clones the source repository rather than using a bundled package? Most of my packages I tend to use packages from MELPA (unstable) so beyond being able to hack at source (which I would rarely do) are there any advantages?

@matrix Usual minister bullshit from someone who doesn't understand software. What software isn't 100% devoid of and validated as to be free of security flaws?None. Its a cat and mouse game or perhaps better is the Red Queen evolutionary analogy of running faster to stay in the same place. The ban contradicts the intended purpose because all it does is erode and lessen the ability to communicate securely. The Signals protocol is open and out there ready to be improved upon.

@sqrtminusone @daviwil Discourse is website software unlike Slack/Discord so you could use whatever you browse websites in Emacs such as Eww perhaps?

@markstos I've started my #nixos journey recently and wondered about this too.Currently my approach is to put packages that I know I will want to use as `root` under `environment.systemPackages` but if I know its only going to be used by a user it goes into `home.packages`.This seems to be splitting terminal based tools into `environment.systemPackages` as I tend to need them as `root` but GUIs end up in `home.packages` as I only use desktop as user.#nixos

Its great that people can ask #emacs questions here and get helpful responses, but it comes with a huge problem....it makes it hard for others to find the questions and their answers. One solution would I think to be to formulate and write questions on https://emacs.stackexchange.com/ and then post and link to them here and have the discipline to write up replies that aren't made to the thread.Forums are an invaluable resource that I feel are slowly disappearing.
