@koyax Definitely good news for the Matrix ecosystem!We did notice the implied claim by the officials involved that Signal is less secure, and we'd be hesitant to make that assertion ourselves. Signal has done objectively good work on that front. We'll leave judgment on that comparison to security experts.

I am 100% for governments using self-hosted systems for internal communications, but this:"These digital tools are not devoid of security flaws, and therefore cannot guarantee the security of conversations and information shared via them,"... is a shockingly weak justification.

@matrix Usual minister bullshit from someone who doesn't understand software.What software isn't 100% devoid of and validated as to be free of security flaws?None.Its a cat and mouse game or perhaps better is the Red Queen evolutionary analogy of running faster to stay in the same place.The ban contradicts the intended purpose because all it does is erode and lessen the ability to communicate securely.The Signals protocol is open and out there ready to be improved upon.

@matrix @koyax I would not use #Signal either for the same reason I do not recommend #WhatsApp: both expose phone numbers. I currently use #Telegram (you have to opt in for the secure settings) & #Element as my primary standalone chat apps.
