@JuniperFlower only saved the edit, but it's not a lot different. Artist is thebatfang.

@inertia It's a fascinating, if critically flawed argument. He's assuming that artwork, intended to make it look like art is terrible, is reality. It's very close to reality, but it's framing the ideology that the artist isolates themself. I don't have anyone I can think of or care for right now, just automobiles and empty streets. Artists do isolate themselves, but other people also suck: isolating them needlessly, and there's nothing the artist can do about it.

@inertia What I mean is obsessions aren't the problem, usually. Most people (even artists) aren't obsessed like that, but they're still isolated. The movie wanted to make it look like artists do it to themselves, when the reality is less stark than the completely insane caricature of a main character.

@inertia I'm trying to tell you that people avoid *everyone.* We've never been more alone in all of recorded history. All those creators have us watching TV, consuming product, driving to work, never touching grass, and that suits our rulers just fine. A plague of loneliness. It's true an artist's obligations do make matters even worse, but it's not just their fault.

@soapone Interesting that you'd cut them. I'd make some pickles myself, but I live with someone who is horrified at the idea, with entirely too much trust in store bought pickles.

@lenny What was unseemingly difficult about it? The closest I've ever come to welding is a low temperature hot glue gun.

@soapone @lenny Cool! I never heard of that before! Also TIG welding's only one kind of welding. I think arc welding and plasma torch welding are totally different. Though arc welding also uses AC square waves...

@sapphire @darkdoomer You might change your tune when you're wasting away from building the king's megacathedral. But I also don't much like the fart fetish. Perhaps better to ask for epic adventures and happy families in our art.I do believe the artist in question is better at convincing people they're good, than actually being any good.

@soapone Shut them down. They would shut them down, all of them. Whether they can do this remains to be seen.

@Xenophon Arguably, importing labor might cause a labor shortage in the country people are fleeing from, which would be good for laborers there. It really depends on the impact immigration has on your economy, and if it's strategic to impact the neighboring economy instead. "Brain drain" is a very serious issue in many places.
