Tried welding for the first time last night to fix a mistake I made on a cast I’m working on right now. I’ve got to give it to welders because it’s definitely a lot harder than YouTube makes it seem.

@soapone Yep. Granted it was less so welding and more filling in a hole then grinding it smooth.

@lenny What was unseemingly difficult about it? The closest I've ever come to welding is a low temperature hot glue gun.

@skybrook @lenny tig welding is difficult because its starting and maintaining an arc at just the right temp with one hand, and feeding in a wire with the other hand. It is very easy to get the temp too cold or too hot. Too hot means its a puddle or burns through. Too cold means the welding looks like a bunch of little spikes. On top of all that, how sharp the tip of the tig is, where the electrical arc is, matters a lot. Also the wave-form of the tig matters too, AC or DC or square wave... etc

@soapone @lenny Cool! I never heard of that before! Also TIG welding's only one kind of welding. I think arc welding and plasma torch welding are totally different. Though arc welding also uses AC square waves...
