it's crazy: the first cultural experience of metrics, tracking and the politics of proxies is not in social media. it is being graded at school.

@timorl haha, maybe try asking if they speak english? Many Swiss are very uncomfortable speaking standard German, but proud of their english (which of course comes with an accent too).

@entreprecariat @k_purpose haha, yes! And it is so funny to see the debates about Mastodon on Twitter, everybody is maximum confused but tries to manage somehow. Its a change in culture baby.

@entreprecariat avoid being vague about money, accommodation and travel fees. Also about modalities: who is in charge of booking, what need be payed upfront and is reimbursed later. State clear numbers and responsibilities.

@entreprecariat this is true. I always assume good faith which would include refunding also when sick. But I think this should be clarified in advance too.

@entreprecariat it was with the development of the personal computer that user became a consumer, set in a uniform single-subjectivity against the hacker, the programmer, the nerd, the hobbyist and so on, who are active subjectivities. There is nothing subtle about the user, and I find that quite disturbing.

@tante the work of Judy Wajcman has a lot of illuminating case studies about this. Eg showing that the introduction of the washing machine did not only raise the expectations of cleanliness, but also freed men from housework, thus deepened gender stereotypes.

For some time now I observe how the environment of my 13yo son talks about ChatGPT.The last days I overheard some casual conversations of young people at the University's mensa and in the train about the same subject. The more or less explicit meaning can be summarized as «it doesn't help learning (understanding), but gets stuff done.»I come to think about ChatGPT as the perfect medium of interaction between disillusioned young people and educational institutions that are not interested in them in the first place.Like, knowledge theater
