       The 1982 "machine of the year" Time cover is an interesting one. Created by artist George Segal, it shows the user as some sort of passive spectator of computer magic (stonks?). Prescient, I'd say.

       @entreprecariat it was with the development of the personal computer that user became a consumer, set in a uniform single-subjectivity against the hacker, the programmer, the nerd, the hobbyist and so on, who are active subjectivities. There is nothing subtle about the user, and I find that quite disturbing.
