*crucial* reading: https://nicholasholm.files.wordpress.com/2019/09/critical-capital-accepted-version.pdf"Like the aesthetic disposition, this new critical disposition is founded upon a distinct set of rules for both interpreting and judging culture. However, whereas the aesthetic disposition attends to form and expression, the critical disposition encounters texts in terms of their politics: their entanglement in wider structures of power." - Nicholas Holm, 2019I wish all my bubble would read this text and then read Bourdieu as well to understand that when they speak and write about power, complexity, intersections, they're not doing activism but just engaging in a game of cultural positioning. More: the very word 'activist' is now a positional token.

You might say: "but… but, you're the first one who writes about power and class entanglement."Yes, but I always try to foreground the cultural game I take part in: my writing doesn't deny the role of aspirations, cultural competition, ambition and other petty dimensions of social life. It often includes taboo words like 'elite', and 'hierarchy'. Furthermore, I do my best (not always succeeding) to avoid the stylistic tics of critical disposition, which are very similar to those of artspeak.

one doesn't even need to consider the official avenues of cultural production to see the distinctive effects of critical disposition, as they affect also casual conversations. A personal anecdote: while discussing the movie Dune with friends, I deliberately chose to focus on its formal aspects, which I consider successful: the atmosphere, architecture etc. When I expressed appreciation for these, I was tacitly cast as naive, as I supposedly didn't pay attention to the orientalist tropes of the movie. The problem is here is twofold: 1) that it was taken for granted that if you focus on formal aspects it is because you don't have the means to read the movie more "deeply"; 2) that the political reading of the movie is more valid than the formalist one, or even the only valid reading.

ok, let me rephrase the last part:"they're not *just* doing activism but *also* engaging in a game of cultural positioning"

@entreprecariat I feel is really a very uncomfortable balance act.
