@john I'm pretty new at this. Decided to go with Linux where I can when Microsoft announced Recall. Bought a mini PC to test distros on. I went with Fedora with KDE. I tried to use GNOME again, but for some reason it always makes my skin itch in a way that I can't really explain (not literally of course). I knew from the Steam Deck that KDE Plasma felt decent enough. Fedora seemed big and stable enough, didn't want something that might be abandoned in a few years. Also, it was the distro with the least amount of weird issues/glitches when testing a bunch of different distros from a USB drive, so that's where I'm at. I still miss Directory Opus so much though, why aren't there any proper file managers anywhere...?

@copygirl Hm well, there was this guy making just that for the Deck. I only saw it in passing back then though, and since I've personally moved away from the Renoise tracker to the Reaper DAW these last couple of years it didn't feel all to relevant for me personally. But maybe worth checking out at least? Provided that it isn't already old news for you of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKE6uH4Q2tI

@hj @honze_net Thanks for the tips, they are appreciated. I'm not afraid of console, but a good search tool with proper GUI will beat CLI in effectiveness and versatility any day of the week. So I'm still hoping to find something that comes close to Everything on Windows. I also need it to be able to search folders on my NAS.

@hj @honze_net It primarily uses NTFS indexes yes, but it has support for creating databases for other file systems and network shares as well. https://www.voidtools.com/faq/After my switch to Linux that piece of software and Directory Opus are the programs I miss the most, daily.
