@john I personally use Arch Linux because I want a rolling release model distribution, since I was eventually fed up with years out of date packages in LTS distros.Despite the rolling release stereotype, my Arch installations very rarely break, and if they do, it's because I messed up and didn't read a warning.I enjoy the setup process resulting in an (from a user perspective) empty system.

Mint because I just don't have the bandwidth to tinker with my computer and MATE because it's very similar to Windows and I don't have the bandwidth to learn a whole new desktop environment.

@john For my desktop machines, Tuxedo-OS, with its version of KDE-Plasma.
Tuxedo OS is derived from debian. For the past decades, I have always run debian or derivatives as underlying OS. I used to run variants of Gnome as my desktop. About three years ago I switched to Tuxedo OS, because it supports my Tuxedo laptop very well. But meanwhile I’ve also installed it on my old Lenovo Thinkpad secondary laptop, because it’s rock solid and runs so well.

@john KDE Plasma because it's beautiful, works and extremely functional.Distributionwise Debian or Ubuntu because both just work without a big hassle. I'm cooling off Ubuntu after more than a decade of use, and before that had used OpenSuSE and RedHat, and Slackware all the way into 90s.

@john I'm using the Ubuntu 20.04 that came with my Dell laptop. I've learned enough to type sudo something to install stuff that's not in the built-in Apps.Eventually I plan to learn how to install a better version of linux because Dell won't let me upgrade to the latest version.

@john My main desktops are Gentoo with Enlightenment e16. It stays out of my way - no systemd, and its a rolling release - haven't had to do anything like a re-install or upgrade, just my daily syncs. My work laptop is Bodhi Linux - a Ubuntu variant with "fixed" version of the Enlightenment e17 desktop. Mainly something compatible that Corp IT sort of accepts. It's mostly ok - systemd and apt are both irritating in some ways, but mostly work. Daily updates but have to clean install on major releases.

@john I'm pretty new at this. Decided to go with Linux where I can when Microsoft announced Recall. Bought a mini PC to test distros on. I went with Fedora with KDE. I tried to use GNOME again, but for some reason it always makes my skin itch in a way that I can't really explain (not literally of course). I knew from the Steam Deck that KDE Plasma felt decent enough. Fedora seemed big and stable enough, didn't want something that might be abandoned in a few years. Also, it was the distro with the least amount of weird issues/glitches when testing a bunch of different distros from a USB drive, so that's where I'm at. I still miss Directory Opus so much though, why aren't there any proper file managers anywhere...?
