@killeveryhetero @bigegg fwiw folks, i know @Shalom IRL and he's not a rapist, i think he's just saying that many if not most straight guys from gen y and above have pushed women into hooking up before we came to a cultural awareness of how fucked up that was and that just because no one has held you to account for your past behavior doesn't mean your necessarily innocent.

@nuttgodd @killeveryhetero @bigegg he's a formerly ultra-orthodox jew who grew up in an extremely insular community where yiddish was his first language and fled the community by joining the army and going off to iraq where he was radicalized against the government. he came back and helped found iraq vets against the war. he was part of the community of ex-orthodox jews in nyc i was a part of. he is socially inept but a good person. anyway, i suspended his account.

last thing before i go away: what is awesome is when you find out something about someone you've known for nearly 20 years at the same time as everyone else, spend literally *five whole minutes* in disbelief, write *two* entire toots explaining how you know them and why it doesn't sound right, and then realize you're being a schmuck, cut the person off and still, everyone turns on you and says you're friends with a rapist and defending them. you can't have five minutes to process — think an errant thought, correct that line of thought — and handle a situation, without being cancelled. it's remarkable really. not days, not hours. in the span of a handful of minutes he was banned and i was canceled nonetheless for not wanting to believe it for less than five minutes. i fucked up but those are some impossible standards.

in case you're wondering what happened, a couple days ago this dude i've known for almost 20 years who rarely posted here came on and said some creepy shit. i and the other mods weren't sure how to interpret it, so we waited for him to explain himself. in the interim, i was being screamed at by a dozen people that my friend is a rapist and i defensively said he's not a rapist only moments before he admitted to me that he had in fact committed a sexual assault. so i banned him and cut off our friendship. this all took place in the span of five minutes. but that one moment when i defensively said he wasn't a rapist – because i was feeling attacked – led to a whole thing with people saying i was defending a rapist (i hadn't) and that i was doubling down (i immediately apologized even before he admitted it).
